The Origin of Christmas
December the 25th is the day when we celebrate Christmas. The whole world waits for this great day. Christmas is celebrated on 25th of December in Joy meant for the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s been many centuries now, since we first started celebrating it. However it is believed that the perfect date of birth of Lord Christ is unknown. We celebrate it as the bible says that Christ was born on this day, but the real existence of Christmas is dated back even before the lord was born.

It is believed that December the 25th was once celebrated by the Romans for the Son-God. Mithra the Pagan deity was worshiped from Asia to Europe. It is said that before Lord Christ was born, the Roman Empire used to celebrate the festival in the name of the Sun-God. However the festival began well before 25th of December, roughly from the 17th till the 25th. The huge empire of Rome celebrated this to celebrate the rebirth of sun god Saturn. The festival saw something more than just gifting, singing and enjoying. At this period of time the roman courts were completely shut down and any horrible activity done in this period of time was forgiven. This increased the number of crimes in the period of a weeklong festival .
It was about 3 centuries later around 336 AD; the then roman emperor Constantine embraced Christianity and declared the Pagan tradition to Christianity, Hence Christmas was then celebrated. There are many other controversial stories. Though people have now understood that they have to get along with the age old Tradition of celebrating the Christmas on 25th of December. Today we look upon it as the birthday of the lord Christ and have fun by gifting dear ones and have fun on this day when God landed on planet Earth.
