The History of Christmas
Christmas is celebrated throughout the globe. People from different casts and creed also celebrate it. It is something that we have learnt from our ancestors. It is because of them that we are able to celebrate this Christmas. However the origin of this auspicious occasion is completely unknown. We celebrate it as the day when Christ was born. However neither the place of origin nor the year of it is known exactly. But experts suggest that Christmas was celebrated long before Christ was born. Hundreds of years before the lord first set on his journey of life on Earth.

It is believed that the Christmas festival had many similarities to the pagans. The Sun-god was born on the 25th of December, which is same as the lord Christ. Saturnalia the winter holidays were named after the holidays dedicated to the sun god.
Many traditions of the Pagan dynasty are now part of the Christmas, such as the Christmas tree, gifting singing and dancing. All this was once a part of the Pagan dynasty, which was in ancient Rome. Years after Christ’s death the Romans turned to Christianity under the emperor Constantine. Christmas has seen many ups and downs, the opposition it faced in the 16th century in England. The Puritans banned it for about 2 decades (22 years). However the effects of the same lasted for at least 2 centuries. This issue was not sorted until the 18th century. This was the period that really started Christmas the way it is today. People trying to enjoy, decorate houses, bring home trees and dine.
Today centuries after Christmas started, we are able to celebrate the festival with great delight. All thanks to the people who have kept the religion and the tradition alive, Even after receiving knocks several times, in the forms of revolt, opposition and being discarded.
