Christmas Tradition
During Christmas times you might be installing a Christmas tree in your house you will get it and take the trouble of decorating it. But, have you ever wondered where the trend started from? Roman Pagans were said to be worshipping trees. The saturnalia were linked to worshipping forests. When the Romans embraced Christianity it is believed that their culture of getting home trees was taken into accounts with Christmas. Another story of this is related to Adam and eve; the garden bore apple trees, with the help of this the couple survived.
Mistletoe the tradition to kiss under it is also believed to have been connected to the Roman Empire. There was a small story of Norse myths about the god Balder being killed with the arrow of Mistletoe. The lord Hoder had brought down the enemy God for the fight for female Nanna.
Every one of us exchanges Christmas presents, but this tradition is an age old. Emperors in Rome would ask their prosperous citizens to get gifts for them during the season of saturnalia. However this was not limited to them, even the masses started practicing it. This is how today we have the trend of presenting people with gifts in Christmas.
Children worldwide on the night of Christmas put a stocking, hoping that Santa clause will be come and put in gifts for them. Children from all castes do this hoping that Santa would get them their desired gifts. After having heard stories about Santa, they now want to test if he really exists. The next morning they check the stocking and find their present, assuming that Santa had been there and got the gift for them. This story never came into existence until the Church ordered share out gifts on 25th instead of 6th of December, Which is the death anniversary of the St Nicholas.
